Help residents of our Madison, Tennessee Supportive Living Home impacted by fire

A fire at one of our Supportive Living Homes in Madison, Tennessee on January 22 caused extensive damage and left one resident in the hospital with injuries. The two other residents of the home were escorted out by their caregiver without injury; however, virtually everything inside the home was destroyed.

Our residents — individuals with developmental disabilities — depend on Volunteers of America for around-the-clock care and receive government subsidies for rent. Unfortunately, those subsidies are not available for the homes where they were relocated, and their personal belongings were not covered by insurance.

Already, our friends in the Nashville area have reached out to support these individuals with generous contributions during this difficult time, but it will take a great deal more community support. You can help by making a fully tax-deductible donation to cover the costs of rent, clothing, and other personal items for our residents.

Here are three options of support:

1. Make an online contribution to The Madison Fund. In the comments section, please indicate that your contribution is for the Madison fund so that it can be designated appropriately.

2. Make a contribution by check to Volunteers of America. Your contribution can be mailed to Randy Brothers, Director of Development, 275 Jackson Meadows Drive, Suite 104, Hermitage, TN 37076. You will receive an acknowledgement by mail that includes information for your tax deduction.

3. Donate gift cards to budget-friendly retail stories such as Wal-Mart, Target, and Meijer. These gifts will help our residents feel empowered to pick out their own clothing and replace their favorite movies, games, and activities that were lost in the fire. You will receive an acknowledgement by mail that includes information for your tax deduction.

The Volunteers of America family thanks everyone for their concern and generosity for our residents.
